There Once Was a Once

I am going to begin posting the stuff that sits in my notebook, scribbled on receipts, printed neatly out and stuffed in a notebook, etc. I will try to give everything a title (although most of my poems from the college years don't have one).

THERE WAS A ONCE

You loved me once when I was nine

scraped knees and stringy hair and beating you up

for a syrupy kiss

You loved me once when I was sixteen

not so sweet in my high school uniform and

too much make-up

You loved me once while at my side

soft skin and clingy fabric in early dawn rays

you were cradled

You loved me once when the lines

appeared like gentle brushes around my eyes

in the mirror

You loved me once sitting on my knees

wounded from chasing you for a hint

of what I felt

You loved me once centuries ago

across lush forests with the echoes of night calls

we would cry

You loved me once in a forever

that catches my scent and sends it wisping up

to your eyes
